Italian Sports Club of Werribee: Building Domain Authority with Off-Page SEO and Profile Backlinks

How I helped ISCW grow online visibility, domain authority, and local search rankings through strategic off-page SEO and 40+ high-quality profile backlinks.

Italian Sports Club of Werribee off-page SEO case study cover

The Italian Sports Club of Werribee (ISCW) is a community sports club based in Werribee, Victoria, Australia. They run a public website at iscw.com.au and wanted to improve how easily people could find them online. Despite being an active local institution, the club had almost no backlink profile and was not appearing prominently in Google for branded or local searches. They approached me to build their authority from the ground up using clean, sustainable off-page SEO methods.

The challenge

  • Low domain authority with minimal backlinks pointing to the site.
  • Limited visibility on Google SERPs for local searches like “Sports Club Werribee” and “Italian Club Werribee.”
  • Weak presence across social and authority platforms, meaning Google had few external trust signals for the site.
  • The club specifically wanted long-term, sustainable SEO growth, with no black-hat shortcuts.

What I did

Profile creation and social citations

I created and verified business profiles on 40-plus globally trusted platforms: Quora, Edocr, GrowthHackers, About.me, Dailymotion, Zotero, Veoh, and Slack, among others. Each profile was fully built out with an optimized description and a backlink pointing to iscw.com.au.

Every profile contained consistent Name, Address, and Phone details to strengthen local trust signals. The backlinks were branded and connected clearly to the club’s identity rather than generic keyword anchors.

Local SEO integration

I aligned the backlink signals with local SEO targets so that the club’s Google Business Profile would benefit. The profiles were optimized with location-relevant terms matching how people actually search for the club.

Content and anchor text optimization

I optimized descriptions, tags, and anchor texts across all platforms, mixing branded terms with local service keywords to create a natural, well-rounded link profile.

Execution

  • Created and verified profiles on authoritative sites including Quora, Edocr, GrowthHackers, Zotero, and Dailymotion.
  • Kept all business information consistent across every platform.
  • Submitted the new backlinks through Google Search Console to speed up crawling and recognition.
  • Rolled out links at a natural pace to avoid triggering spam signals.

Results

  • Domain authority improved. Backlink signals from trusted platforms gave ISCW’s domain stronger authority scores.
  • Rankings grew for branded and local keywords. The club saw significant improvements in positions for searches like “Italian Club Werribee” and “Sports Club in Werribee.”
  • Visibility increased in local search. ISCW began appearing more frequently for location-based queries on Google.
  • Referral traffic appeared. The citation profiles and social accounts started sending referral visits to the club website.

Why it worked

  • High-quality profile backlinks from authoritative domains build genuine brand trust with search engines, not just raw link counts.
  • Consistent NAP data across 40-plus platforms reinforced local signals and helped Google connect the club’s online presence to its physical location.
  • A natural link velocity, combined with indexed submissions via Search Console, meant gains came through without triggering penalties.
